Struggling with an addiction? Seek help, not marriage partner or relationship!

Hello friends,

Let’s talk about addiction and its overall effects on relationships – whether dating or courtship
.
But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. (Obadiah 17, KJV)

What is an addiction?
Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.(psychologytoday.com)

Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. (Wikipedia)

People with an addiction do not have control over what they do or talk about.

Types of addiction
For the sake of this write up, addiction include (but not limited to):
Addiction to hard drugs, addiction to gambling, addiction to masturbation, addiction to violent sex, addiction to making money illegally, addiction to same sex for relationship (lesbianism and gay), addiction to pornography, addiction to married men or women, addiction to football, addiction to occult practices, addiction to fornication, addiction to adultery, addiction to stealing, addiction to naked dressing, and the summary of all addiction to sin.

Ways Out of addiction
The addiction level of individuals varies and the first I would advise is to seek for medical attention.
There are some addictions that medical practices have no cure, but such can be dealt with spiritually once the situation is properly diagnosed.

Addiction and relationships
A person who is deep in one form of addiction or another is not fit to be in a dating/courtship relationship, much less consider marriage.(until they have at least started down the path toward recovery.

Quite a number of singles today, are in one form of abusive relationship or the other. Some lady suffers physical assault from their partners; others are savagely raped sexually. Victims of such abusive relationship are afraid to cry out.

Are you in an abusive relationship that has its root in an addiction? Is your partner struggling with any known addiction? Such a fellow does not need to be in a relationship, much considering marriage. That would be suicidal. You must break away from such individuals before they completely ruin your life.

Most people are into relationships without taking stock of the partner’s life. So many people are so much “in love” glossing over the apparent flaws of addiction in their partner.

Addictions are a tool of the devil to keep people in bondage and away from God. But there is hope – God is stronger than the devil or any addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with any sort of addiction, the fellow should first seek medical help, and if it cannot be handled or there is no head way, then deliverance would suffice.

Stay blessed and prosperous in Jesus name.
